Canning Homemade Chocolate Sauce

Making and canning your own chocolate sauce couldn’t be any easier. As long as you have the ingredients on hand, canning supplies and are comfortable water bath canning, you can easily make chocolate sauce to add to your long-term food storage at a fraction of the cost. This chocolate sauce is very versatile and can be used to top ice cream or other desserts, to make chocolate milk or hot cocoa or any other way you see fit.

Homemade Chocolate Sauce Recipe

6 cups sugar
2 cups cocoa powder
4 cups hot water
2 teaspoons vanilla
½ teaspoon canning salt

Directions:

Add sugar, cocoa powder, and hot water to a large pot and cook on medium/high heat. Stir continuously. Bring to a boil and boil for 3 minutes. Remove from heat and add the vanilla and salt.

Fill jars with a ½ inch headspace. Process jars in water bath canner for 20 minutes.

Yield 8-10 half-pints.

Our preference is to can this chocolate sauce in half-pint jars, however, you could also can it in pint jars and would use less jars as a result. We also prefer to use organic cane sugar to make this chocolate sauce.
