Today we’re sharing a recipe for Homemade Playdough. Summer is a busy time for many with lots of fun activities but most families also need activities to keep kids busy at home too.
All about Homemade Playdough
Playdough is one of those things that children of all ages and even adults enjoy playing. It’s so fun to give them playdough and watch their imaginations create fun things! We’ve tried many different homemade playdough recipes over the years, but we always come back to this one.
One great thing about this playdough is how long it stays soft. Most storebought playdough gets dried out after not too long. We have batches of this homemade Playdough that have lasted us a couple of years and are still as soft as can be.
The other great thing about this playdough is that it is scented by the Koolaid flavor you choose. It’s just so fun and smells amazing too. You wouldn’t think it would stay scented that well for that long but it does. Just as long as the playdough is still good, its still soft and scented like you just made it.
This playdough is also a great thing to make and give away as a gift. You can even package it in smaller containers to include in a gift. It is just the best and is also inexpensive to make too!
Homemade Playdough
The best Homemade Playdough that stays soft, scented and fun for so long!
Ingredients
- 1 cup flour
- 1/4 cup salt
- 2 tbsp cream of tartar
- 1 package unsweetened Koolaid
- 1 cup water
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
Instructions
-
Combine 1 cup flour, 1/4 cup salt, 2 tablespoons cream of tartar, 1 packet of Koolaid and 1 cup of water in a small saucepan.
-
Turn on medium heat and stir in 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. Continue stirring for 3 to 5 minutes until the mixture forms into a ball. The mixture will darken in color.
-
Remove from heat and knead for a minute or two.
-
Store in an airtight container or ziplock bag once it has cooled.
You’ll want to make sure that you get your playdough good and dry and cooled before you close up the container you store it in. If you see any condensation, be sure to open it back up so that the playdough doesn’t develop mold. Also make sure that the playdough gets picked up and properly stored after each use to help it stay soft.
