All about this Carne Asada Marinade

This Carne Asada Marinade is so easy and delicious! You will think you’re at the restaurant instead of your home. You simply mix up the marinade, add it to the meat of your choice and let it marinate for 24-28 hours.

This recipe pairs very well with rice and beans. But also pairs well with some warm tortillas or even some corn chips. Typically, we slice this steak thinly and make burritos or tacos. We also like to have yummy sides like beans and rice, a few chips or even salad.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 2/3 cup white vinegar
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup oil
  • 2 tbsp minced garlic
  • 2 tbsp lime or lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 4 tsp ground black pepper
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tsp chili powder
  • 2 tsp cumin
  • 2 tsp paprika
  • 4 sirloin steaks (or meat of your choice)

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients in a bowl.

  2. Add the marinade to a container or bag with your meat.

  3. Place in the refrigerator and marinade for at least 24 hours. Turn the contents of the container or bag every so often.

  4. Add sliced bell pepper and onion to the marinading meat the same day you plan cooking or right as you are cooking your meat.

This marinade can be made with other meats but in our opinion, it’s really been best served with beef or another red meat. You could use venison, elk, buffalo, pork, goat or whatever meat you prefer. This recipe also allows you the opportunity to use up vegetables that are going bad. Slice up your peppers and onions or even use frozen ones.

This recipe is very versatile and can be paired with another starch such as potatoes, pasta, quinoa or couscous. By making this diluted marinade, it allows you to be able to reduce and cook it down and it doesn’t become too salty.

How long does this marinade stay good?

This marinade could be made up several days in advance and stored in a container in the refrigerator. After you start the marinading process, you’ll want to let it sit for at least 24 hours but even a couple of days for a stronger flavor. Once you cook up your carne asada, store any leftovers in a container in the refrigerator for 3-5 days.
