We have searched far and wide and continue to come back to this recipe.  This is hands down is the easiest and best homemade pizza dough recipe.  Forget the pizza parlor, between this amazing recipe, a pizza stone, and a hot oven you can make better pizza at home.

Can you make substitutions to this recipe?

This recipe is extremely versatile in that you can substitute different oils, flours, spices as long as you allow for the key components to remain the same. As long as you allow for your yeast to activate, your dough to knead and your dough to rise….it is very forgiving.

What is so great about homemade pizza dough?

This pizza dough recipe is handy for those busy weeknights as you can make it up ahead of time and refrigerate it for further use.  This dough is easiest to work with if it isn’t allowed to rise for more than 2 hours or if it is refrigerated after it’s rise time until it is needed.

Homemade pizza has become a regular meal in our home.  In an effort to be frugal and not waste food, we typically throw a pizza together with whatever meats and vegetables we have that need to be used up.  You can get really creative and you would be surprised with all the different types of pizza you can create.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 tbsp honey or sugar
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 2 tbsp olive or avocado oil
  • 3 cups bread flour

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, preferably a stand mixer, stir yeast and honey into warm water. Sit for 5-10 minutes or until bubbles form and the mixture starts to foam. This tells you that the yeast is alive and kicking.

  2. Pour in the salt, oil, and half of the flour and mix.

  3. Once that flour is incorporated, start adding flour in bit by bit until you get the pizza dough to the consistency you want; slightly tacky, but when you touch it, it doesn't stick to your hands.

  4. Once you reach this stage, turn the mixer on 2 (stand mixer) or medium speed and knead for 6 minutes. Turn on the timer and walk away! Resist the temptation to stop earlier than 6 minutes. This seems to be the magical amount of time for your dough to come out perfect.

  5. The dough should be smooth and easy to work with. And the bowl should be clean.

  6. Lightly grease the bowl and dough so it doesn't dry out, cover with plastic wrap and let it rise 1-2 hours.

  7. That's it! Now you can make any kind of pizza or even bread sticks with this dough.
