The instant pot makes brown rice that is incredibly better and easier than what you can make on the stove or even in a rice cooker.  Initially, we would make rice on the stove and then purchased a rice cooker.  We thought the rice cooker was the next best thing until we made rice in the instant pot.  Making brown rice in the instant pot is a total game changer.

Brown rice in the instant pot makes fluffy and sticky rice.  It makes the perfect side to your dish or can be placed at the bottom of your plate or bowl to make a bed of rice.  It also makes the best sushi rice if that is what you are after.  Anyway you serve this rice, you won’t be disappointed.  Like just about everything you make in the instant pot, you will ask yourself….where has the instant pot been all my life?

What is all the hype about instant pot brown rice?

  1. It’s a hands off way to cook rice and you don’t have to babysit a pot on the stove.
  2. Makes fluffy and sticky rice.
  3. Takes less than 5 minutes to prep and start the rice in the instant pot.

The Water to Rice Ratio

The water to rice ratio is an important aspect of cooking rice in your instant pot.  You need to measure both the water and rice to ensure you have precise measurements and your rice will turn out great every time. You can use chicken broth in place of water in this recipe for a more savory rice. We prefer a lower sodium broth if we do use this in place of water.

How long will instant pot brown rice last?

You can make rice ahead of time for a meal prep or batch cooking prep.  Rice does taste best when served right after cooking but it will keep for a couple of days if needed for future meals.  Refrigerate rice as soon as it cools within about one hour.  Use cooked rice within 2-3 days by reheating until steaming before serving.  Any uneaten rice can also be put into a freezer bag or container and frozen for future use.

Can this instant pot brown rice get any better?

This rice can easily be adapted for any recipe it is needed.  You can toast the rice slightly in oil or butter before cooking to give it a more flavor.  To do this you simply use the sauté function on your instant pot to toast the rice before adding the liquid and starting the cooking process.  You can also add spices, seasonings or herbs to help this rice go well with your dish.  Chili powder and cumin can be added to give it more of a Spanish rice taste.  Lime juice and cilantro can be added to your rice once it finishes for a cilantro lime rice.  You can also add a spoonful for coconut oil to your rice for extra health benefits.
