Easy Homemade Blueberry Jam from Frozen Blueberries

There’s something so satisfying about opening a jar of homemade blueberry jam and knowing you made it yourself. And the best part? You don’t have to wait for fresh blueberry season to make it! Frozen blueberries work beautifully for homemade jam.

I recently made a batch using frozen blueberries, and it turned out awesome. I thawed the blueberries first and decided to blend them before making the jam. I wanted a smoother consistency without a lot of whole blueberries, and the finished jam ended up being somewhere between a traditional jam and jelly. It was smooth, flavorful, and absolutely delicious!

Start With Frozen Blueberries

I used frozen blueberries and allowed them to thaw completely. After thawing, I blended the blueberries until they reached the consistency I wanted. If you prefer a chunkier jam, you can simply crush the berries instead of blending them.

Blending the blueberries is a great option if you have kids or family members who don’t like big pieces of fruit in their jam. You still get all that wonderful blueberry flavor without the chunks.

Making the Blueberry Jam

I followed the Sure-Jell-style cooked jam method using fruit pectin, sugar, and bottled lemon juice. The blueberries and pectin are cooked together until they reach a full rolling boil. Then the sugar is added, and the mixture is brought back to a boil and cooked for another minute.

Once the jam was ready, I ladled it into hot canning jars, leaving the recommended headspace. I wiped the jar rims clean, added the lids and bands, and processed the jars in a boiling-water bath.

My Finished Jam

This batch made about 3½ pints of blueberry jam, which I was thrilled with! The texture was smooth and spreadable, almost more like blueberry jelly because I had blended the fruit.

It turned out beautifully, and the blueberry flavor really came through. I can’t wait to use it on fresh bread, biscuits, toast, pancakes, or even swirl some into homemade yogurt.

If you’ve got frozen blueberries sitting in your freezer, don’t save them just for smoothies. Turn them into homemade blueberry jam! It’s an easy way to make something delicious that your family can enjoy long after blueberry season is over.
