Today we’re sharing our Chex Mix Recipe.  A step-by-step guide for making the best homemade Chex mix.

All about our Chex Mix Recipe

Chex mix is the ultimate DIY snack.  It used to be the snack that everyone made for Football season or the holidays but has now become a snack many enjoy year around.  It’s crunchy, just the right amount of salty and stays good for several weeks.  This makes it the perfect thing to keep on the counter for midday or pre-dinner snack.  It is a great snack to make for barbecues, potlucks, parties, or just to make to give away as a gift.

Traditional Chex mix is made with a combination of Chex cereals, pretzels, bagel chips, and nuts.  But if you don’t have Chex cereal, you can use cheerios or crispix instead.  If you don’t have bagel chips, you can use other small crackers like goldfish, cheese crackers, oyster crackers, or bugles.  Really any combination of different crunchy snacks is delicious.  You can add peanuts or mixed nuts but you can also leave them out if you don’t like them or someone has a nut allergy.

Many Chex mix recipes are not baked or are made in the microwave.  But we firmly believe that the very best, most irresistible Chex mix is oven baked Chex mix.  It’s quite simple, you toss whatever mix of ingredients you’re using in heavily seasoned butter and bake it until it’s crisp and perfectly toasted.

Our best tips to making this ultimate snack mix are not to skim on the seasoning.  This recipe makes a lot of Chex mix, and it can handle a lot of seasoning, so be sure to use the full amount even if seems like a lot.  The next tip is to toss the cereal mix with the butter in two steps.  First pour half of the butter mixture and stir, then pour the remaining butter mixture and stir again. Lastly, you’ll want to bake this snack mix at 250 degrees F and to stir the mix every 15 minutes for one hour.  If you follow these tips, you’ll make the perfect Chex mix.
