This fun treat is easy to make.  You simply choose two colors of Jello for patriotic colors we chose red and blue.  Then our third color is the white gelatin which is made using unflavored gelatin and sweetened condensed milk.  You start by making your colored Jello and then after this is chilled for several hours or overnight you make your white gelatin.  Then you combine them altogether and it looks just like broken glass.  It is a very cool effect and it’s sure to be a show stopper.

Next time you need a fun cold dessert, try making this broken glass Jello.  You can even use different flavors or colors to make it for different holidays or occasions.  You can even substitute sugar free Jello if you’re wanting to lower the amount of sugar in the recipe.  Also, you can even replace the sweetened condensed milk with a fat free version if you are wanting to lessen the amount of fat in this recipe.

Ingredients

  • 4 3 ounce boxes Jello assorted colors (we used 2 blue raspberry and 1 strawberry flavored)
  • 4 cups boiling water
  • 2 .25 ounce envelopes unflavored gelatin
  • 2 cups hot water
  • 14 ounce can sweetened condensed milk

Instructions

  1. Dissolve each box of Jello into its own individual container, using 1 cup of boiling water per flavor (no more than 1-inch deep.) Chill until solid, about 3 hours or overnight.

  2. Once solid, cut each of the different flavors into small square cubes.

  3. Using a 9 x 13 glass dish, gently mix the cubes together in an even layer (being very careful not to break or tear them.)

  4. In a medium-sized bowl, dissolve 2 envelopes of unflavored gelatin in 2 cups of hot water. Let the hot mixture cool slightly and then whisk in the sweetened condensed milk.

  5. Let the mixture cool to the touch (if it's too warm, it could melt the Jello cubes.) Then evenly pour the mixture over the cubes of Jello.

  6. Chill in the refrigerator overnight.

  7. Cut into squares and serve.

Recipe Notes

We used 2 small boxes of Starburst Blue Raspberry Gelatin Mix (3.94 oz) boxes and 1 small box of Strawberry Jello (3 oz) box.
