Picking Blueberries

These past two weekends have been sweltering hot here in Oregon, however, despite this we have managed to continue to add to our food storage. We live nearby a u-pick farm where we enjoy picking blueberries, raspberries, marionberries, and blackberries. Over these last two weekends we picked about 10 lbs of blueberries at the amazing price of $1.50 per lb. This is really the only way to go in our opinion as the cost of blueberries at the regular grocery is much higher for a much smaller quantity. In addition, the quality of the blueberries we can pick at our local u-pick is also much higher. We do have blueberry bushes planted on our property but they are not yet producing enough blueberries to meet our needs. Until then, we will continue to enjoy the experience of picking our own berries, supporting a local farmer, and contributing to our long-term food storage. We encourage you to explore local u-pick farms in your area. While the berry season may have passed for some berries in your area, the peaches, pears, apples, and other seasonal fruits are yet to come or may currently be available at a farm near you. Thank you for stopping by and visiting Sunup to Sundown!
